The autumn 2017 fashion season is just weeks away now and, with it, a fresh crop of exciting clothes is set to land on the high street. This week two giants, Mango and Zara, have released previews of their campaign images, offering a first glimpse of the hero pieces that will be in stores from August. The catwalk offerings are important, of course, but consider this your chance to inject some trend-led pieces into your wardrobe - and start writing a shopping list, now.

The mannish coat

Amber Valletta stars in Mango’s new advertising images, modeling everything from slinky Nineties slips to tonal knitwear. The brand’s outerwear looks particularly strong - this statement lime wool coat is priced at £169.99 and is available to pre-order now.

The checks

Steven Meisel shot the autumn 2017 Zara campaign, taking on some of the toughest aesthetics of the season with all-leather looks and razor sharp tailoring. Checks ruled on the catwalks for Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney and, for Zara, they manifest in tiered pleated skirts and graphic blazers.

The corduroy trousers

Consider corduroy your new denim and wear it with all of the blouses and t-shirts that you would usually pair your jeans with. Experiment with colours, too - Mango’s rose pink ones are already available.

The cream cable knits

Pile your sheep-coloured knits on in layers, teamed with silky lace slips and dark leather accessories. Zara's incarnations include turtleneck jumpers and bolero cardigans, all ready for stacking.

The tough accessories

Track sole biker boots and chain-trimmed messenger bags are to be worn with delicate dresses and heavy duty outerwear alike. Zara completes the effect by styling theirs with a hardware-covered camel coat.
